The short answer

Arrive with your current putter, the ball you normally use and examples of the putts that trouble you. The baseline matters more than arriving with a preferred brand.

Preparation makes a putter fitting more productive. Bring the club and ball you normally use, and be ready to describe your common start-line and pace misses without trying to diagnose them yourself.

Bring a truthful baseline

Do not alter your stroke or borrow a different putter just before the session. Clean the face, note the playing length if known, and bring the ball model you usually play because sound and pace perception can differ.

Describe misses, not theories

Useful examples include pushing short putts, inconsistent pace from distance or struggling to aim a particular head shape. Let the fitter test the cause instead of arriving committed to a toe-hang, face-balanced or shaft-style diagnosis.

Wear your normal setup

Use your golf shoes if the facility permits, or footwear with a similar sole height. Allow time to settle into your normal posture and hit enough baseline putts before comparing equipment.

Make a short pre-fitting note

Write down three situations: the short putt you commonly miss, the distance at which pace becomes uncertain, and the visual feature you like or dislike in your present head. Add the putter’s model and approximate playing length. This gives the fitter testable starting points without locking the session into your diagnosis.

Use the questions to ask before booking to confirm what the venue can test. After the appointment, the post-fitting validation guide helps separate adjustment from normal adaptation.

Avoid rehearsing for the test

There is no need to groove a new stroke before attending. A fitting works best with the motion you can repeat on the course. If injury or mobility affects setup, mention it when booking so the session can be planned appropriately.
