Look for a measured baseline with your present putter, relevant head and build alternatives, and enough repeated putts to separate a pattern from noise. Ask whether the session considers both start direction and distance control.

Compare the outcome

A useful recommendation names the length, lie, loft, head style, grip and weighting that were tested. It may lead to an adjustment, a new build or no change. Ask whether you will receive those details after the session.

Check practical fit

A nearby venue is valuable if follow-up adjustments are easy, but location alone does not establish quality. Confirm the surface, test options and path from recommendation to finished club before booking.

Judge the answers before you book

Ask, “What do I receive at the end?” A clear answer names measurements and explains whether your current putter can be adjusted. “We will find what feels best” is too vague unless the session also compares aim, strike and pace. Ask how many lengths and head styles can be tested and whether the fitter will explain conflicting results.
