The L.A.B. Golf MEZZ.1 is a fanged mid-mallet putter built around the company’s Lie Angle Balance concept. It is intended for golfers who want that balancing approach in a shape closer to a familiar mallet. There are no sensors or algorithms inside the head. Its behaviour comes from the physical design and from being built and balanced to the golfer’s specifications.

What Lie Angle Balance means

L.A.B. Golf says its patented Lie Angle Balance technology is designed to reduce the putter face’s tendency to twist during the stroke. That is a design claim about torque and face orientation, not a guarantee that every putt will start on line or go in. Aim, green reading, pace, setup and quality of contact still belong to the golfer.

The manufacturer identifies MEZZ.1 among the models covered by its self-balancing-putter patent. It also describes the model as a mid-mallet and offers it with its angled PressGrip system. Those grips create an integrated forward press through an off-axis shaft position inside the grip. Grip choice changes hand position and feel, so it should be considered as part of the build rather than as an afterthought.

The fitting decisions that matter

  • Lie angle: L.A.B. Golf calls this the most important fitting measurement for its putters. It should match how the shaft sits when you address and stroke the ball naturally.
  • Length: length influences posture, eye position and where your hands meet the grip. Measure it in your normal putting setup.
  • Grip: the manufacturer currently discusses 1.5-degree, 2-degree and 3-degree PressGrip options for different hand positions and amounts of shaft lean.
  • Shaft and head weight: available choices can affect feel. Compare them without changing several variables at once.
  • Alignment: choose a marking you can aim confidently. More lines are not automatically better for every player.

How to test a MEZZ.1

Begin with short, straight putts to establish aim and strike. Move to longer putts to judge pace, then add breaking putts and your common pressure distances. Use your normal routine. A productive comparison looks at start direction, strike location and distance pattern over a group of putts; one holed attempt proves very little.
