Start with the clubs you want to assess
Tell the fitter whether you are looking at your driver, irons, wedges, putter or the whole bag. Explain the problem you want to address, such as an uncomfortable setup, an inconsistent strike or a set that no longer suits you. That gives the fitter a clearer basis for recommending the scope of a session.
A useful fitting does not have to mean replacing every club. Your existing equipment may be suitable, may need an adjustment, or may need replacement. Ask which options can be assessed before committing to new equipment.
Ask what the fitting fee includes

- Will you test your current clubs alongside alternatives?
- Will you receive a summary of recommended specifications?
- Are any adjustments or follow-up checks included?
- Is the fitting fee separate from a subsequent equipment purchase?
Different providers may structure their services differently. A fitting fee, an equipment deposit and a workshop charge should not be assumed to be interchangeable.
Separate fitting from parts and labour
If changes are recommended, ask for a separate breakdown. New grips, replacement shafts, replacement clubs and installation can each affect the total. The suitability of an adjustment also depends on the club’s design and condition; a fitter should check the actual club before recommending work.
Give the workshop a budget and ask which changes matter most for your goal. You can then decide whether to proceed with all the recommendations or make a smaller change first. An improvement in comfort or consistency is a goal to evaluate, not an outcome that a fitting can guarantee.
Bring useful information
Bring your current clubs and describe how often you play, what you struggle with and any recent equipment changes. If you have existing specifications or fitting notes, bring those too. Accurate information makes the conversation more useful than choosing equipment solely by price or by another golfer’s setup.
