The short answer
Record every tested component and finished measurement, approve substitutions explicitly, and compare the delivered clubs with the written order before use.
Custom-built clubs translate a tested recommendation into physical equipment. A model name and shaft flex are not enough: the order needs all components, measurements, settings and set composition that made the tested build useful.
Capture the fitting result
- Head model, generation, handedness and stated loft.
- Shaft manufacturer, model, weight or version, flex and any specified preparation.
- Finished playing length and lie where relevant.
- Grip model, size, orientation and any build-up instruction.
- Adjustable hosel or weight settings.
- Iron or wedge set composition, including any blended models.
Keep this separately from the retailer’s order confirmation. The fitting guide explains how to reach the recommendation.
Resolve substitutions before assembly
A component may be unavailable. Ask to be contacted rather than allowing an automatic substitution, because a similarly named shaft or grip may not reproduce the tested build. Decide whether to wait, retest an alternative or accept a documented change.
Example: the incomplete driver order
“10.5-degree head, stiff shaft” omits the shaft model and weight, playing length, adapter position, grip and head-weight setting. Two drivers matching that short description can feel and fly differently. Copy the full configuration from the fitting record.
Check clubs when they arrive
Confirm model, handedness, set makeup, shaft and grip labels, visible condition and adjustable settings. Ask how length, loft and lie were verified if they were specified. Report a clear mismatch before altering or extensively using the club.
Existing clubs may offer another route
Regripping, reshafting or suitable length, loft and lie changes can sometimes move current equipment toward a known specification. Review what refurbishment services include, then email Fix It Golf with the fitting sheet and current build.
