The short answer
Treat an RXR 55 as an unidentified used component until its label, dimensions, condition and installed build have been checked.
“Tour AXS Black RXR 55” is a legacy shaft label, not a complete verified specification. Confirm the exact model with LA Golf before relying on specifications; RXR and 55 should not be decoded into performance or measured mass.
Preserve the exact identity
Photograph each line of graphics, the finish, butt code and tip. Small wording differences matter when distinguishing a production model from a repaint, prototype or incorrectly described listing.
Establish whether it can be reused
Ask for raw and prepared length, the previous head and adapter, and close images of the tip. Deep sanding, splintering, heat damage or an unknown extension deserves inspection before purchase.
Do not borrow current specifications
LA Golf’s current shaft collection documents present families. Their weight, torque or flight descriptions should not be assigned to an RXR 55 simply because the brand is the same.
Make condition a separate verdict
Identity and condition answer different questions. Manufacturer confirmation could identify the model while a cracked tip still makes it unsuitable. Conversely, a clean shaft with incomplete provenance may remain a candidate only after dimensions and compatibility are established.
Plan around the previous build
An adapter can conceal the prepared tip, and removing it is workshop work. Ask for the former head and playing length so a fitter can judge whether the target build is realistic. See the Tour AXS family checklist and driver comparison process.
Use a written compatibility decision
Before installation, record whether the adapter fits, whether enough usable length remains and whether the prepared tip is sound. If any point is conditional on adapter removal, keep the decision provisional until a professional can inspect it.
Confirm the proposed build
A fitter can check tip compatibility, target playing length and how the shaft works with the intended head and grip. Fix It Golf provides club repair and reshafting services in Randwick.
